NFL to examine replay rule from Lions-Texans game

NEW YORK (AP) ? The rule that negated using video replay to confirm a Houston Texans touchdown "may be too harsh" and will be re-examined immediately, NFL director of football operations Ray Anderson said Friday.

Anderson, also co-chairman of the competition committee that suggests rules changes to the owners, said a change could come this year. The NFL traditionally resists changing rules during a season.

"We will certainly discuss the rule with the competition committee members, as we do all situations involving unique and unusual circumstances, and determine if we feel a change should be recommended to ownership," Anderson said in a statement.

"Not being able to review a play in this situation may be too harsh, and an unintended consequence of trying to prevent coaches from throwing their challenge flag for strategic purposes in situations that are not subject to a coaches' challenge."

Anderson added the NFL is not bound by past events when a rule is proved to have loopholes, and that a 15-yard penalty for throwing the challenge flag on a play that is automatically reviewed might be enough. For now, throwing the challenge flag also eliminates the use of replay. All scoring plays otherwise are reviewed.

Justin Forsett's third-quarter 81-yard run in the Texans' 34-31 overtime victory at Detroit on Thursday initially was ruled a touchdown, although replays clearly showed his knee and elbow touched the turf when he was hit by Lions defenders. Detroit coach Jim Schwartz challenged, resulting in a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and the negated use of video replay.

"I overreacted," Schwartz acknowledged. "And I cost us."

In 2011, instant replay rules were changed to have the replay official initiate a review of all scoring plays. The rule stated that a team is prevented from challenging a play if that team commits a foul that prevents the next snap, or if a challenge flag is thrown when an automatic review would take place. A 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty is assessed as well as the elimination of the replay review for the play.

But, as Anderson noted, getting the calls right is paramount and that the league may have overlooked the scenario that occurred in Detroit.

Similar incidents not involving scores happened last season in San Francisco's win, coincidentally at Detroit, and last week when the Falcons beat Arizona.

The rule was adopted in part because of a situation in a Redskins-Giants game in December 2010.

Officials on the field ruled a fumble recovered by the Giants, and the ball was made ready for play. But Washington veteran linebacker London Fletcher kicked the ball and was called for delay of game. While the penalty was being enforced, Washington challenged the ruling of a fumble.

The competition committee felt that a team could benefit from committing a penalty in that situation, giving it more time to challenge a play. It was decided that the new rule would also apply when a team throws the challenge flag on a play that can't be challenged ? including scoring plays, turnovers, when the team is out of challenges or timeouts, and inside the final two minutes of a half or game, or in overtime.

President Barack Obama's victory over Mitt Romney was of as much interest to baseball's money men as the game scores, given the millions of dollars routinely guaranteed in player contracts these days.

As free agents negotiate deals this offseason, tax policy is an area that comes up along with the usual issues. Some players are wrangling for as much money as they can get before the end of the year to avoid a take hike in 2013.

"Front-loading would make sense if at all possible as tax rates will definitely go up on January 1st on all high-income taxpayers," agent Greg Genske said in an email. "The only question is HOW MUCH will the rates increase????"

This much is known for now: Starting Jan. 1, there is an additional 0.9 percent Medicare tax on wages above $200,000 for individuals and $250,000 for married couples filing jointly under the federal Affordable Care Act, a rise to 2.35 percent.

In addition, the Bush tax cuts are scheduled to expire at the end of the year, which could raise the highest marginal federal tax rate from 35 percent to 39.6 percent - although a deal between Obama and Congress could change that.

Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane figures agents will be on top of the changes - but the results of negotiations about the so-called fiscal cliff are unpredictable.

"I think if you're hopping around the potential of tax reform, you're probably chasing your tail," Beane said. "If they can predict when something's going to happen, then they're much further ahead than the lawmakers."

With baseball contracts worth as much as $275 million (Alex Rodriguez) and the major league minimum $480,000, tax policy affects every player who spends most of the season in the big leagues.

All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes, who has a $10 million salary next year, was traded from the Miami Marlins to the Toronto Blue Jays. While Florida has no state income tax, Reyes remains a New York resident from his days with the Mets and had high taxes to begin with. Ontario's provincial tax rises to 11.16 percent - on top of a Canadian federal level as high as 29 percent.

Among states with big league teams, income tax rates go as high as 10.3 percent in California and 8.82 percent in New York. At the other end, Florida, Texas and Washington have no state income tax. The top rate in the District of Columbia is 8.95 percent.

"I like ours; we're a no-tax state," Seattle Mariners general manager Jack Zdurienck said. "When we sit down with players, that's a huge benefit. I think any player out there that has an opportunity to play in a no-tax state gets benefits, enormous benefits. We hope that weighs in our favor."

According to an analysis done by a tax lawyer on the staff of agent Scott Boras, a player with a $10 million salary and average deductions who plays in Florida and is a resident of that state will see his taxes rise from $3.45 million this year to $4.09 million next year under current law. If traded to the Blue Jays, that player's 2013 tax would rise to $4.27 million. And if dealt to a California team, the tax would go up to $4.4 million.

By moving money from salary into signing bonuses, players can sometimes lower their state tax bills. Shifting money into December this year could reduce federal taxes.

"Tax measures are going to be discussed, but change most likely carries compromise on both sides," Boras said. "One thing is clear based on the nation's ballot totals: Many Americans are split on this subject."

In the end, most free agents choose teams based on where they want to play, not on lowering the tax cut on their income.

"It's a factor, maybe even a small factor," agent Craig Landis said. "If there's 50 variables, you can now make it a 51st. It's not usually going to be the drive, but it's something to consider."

And for teams, only the big spenders need worry.

Beane's Athletics, for instance, had the lowest payroll in the majors last season.

"It's probably not a situation I'll have to face in Oakland too much," he said.

Chambliss latest Republican to break with anti-tax lobbyist

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senator Saxby Chambliss this week became the latest Republican lawmaker to loosen his ties to Grover Norquist, the anti-tax lobbyist famous for getting elected officials to sign a "taxpayer protection pledge."

The rebellion, albeit a modest one, comes as Republicans prepare to negotiate with Democrats and President Barack Obama on a deal to avert the so-called fiscal cliff - some $600 billion in tax increases and spending cuts set to start jolting the economy at the beginning of 2013.

"I care more about this country than I do about a 20-year-old pledge," Chambliss told Georgia television station WMAZ on Thursday. "If we do it his way, then we'll continue in debt, and I just have a disagreement with him about that."

A vast majority of elected Republicans have signed the pledge Norquist created in 1986, which commits them to voting against tax increases, and it became a type of litmus test among U.S. conservatives.

But its influence, and that of Norquist's organization, Americans for Tax Reform, may be waning following Republican losses in this month's elections and acknowledgments from Republican leaders that revenue must be raised to pare deficits topping $1 trillion.

"Grover Norquist has no plan to pay this debt down. His plan says you continue to add to the debt. I just have a fundamental disagreement with him about that," Chambliss said.

Norquist, in response, noted that Chambliss was an author of an open letter to him last year from three Republicans promising support for revenue generation from the "pro-growth effects" of lower tax rates.

"Senator Chambliss promised the people of Georgia he would go to Washington and reform government rather than raise taxes to pay for bigger government," Norquist said.

Some Republicans contend they are only open to raising revenue through economic growth, an impact hard to quantify and which Democrats and many economists say is not nearly enough.

Republican aides on Capitol Hill have been grumbling privately about the attention Norquist gets, worrying that it weakens their ability to negotiate across the aisle.

Representative Scott Rigell, a Republican who won re-election despite disavowing the pledge, expressed similar sentiments publicly in a November 17 interview on CNN.

Rigell said he was a businessman and would "go where the numbers lead me. And a careful analysis of our budget and trying to reconcile that with the Americans for Tax Reform Pledge led me to the clear decision that the pledge itself is an impediment to meaningful tax reform."

Norm Ornstein, a political scientist at the conservative-leaning American Enterprise Institute, said such comments showed taking on Norquist was not as risky as it used to be.

"Taking on Grover Norquist at this point is not the kiss of death it was a year or five years ago," Ornstein said. "Especially when you have a president winning re-election after making raising taxes on the rich a centerpiece of his campaign."

DEBT, POLARIZATION

By signing the pledge, lawmakers agree to "oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rate for individuals and business," and "oppose any net reduction" or elimination of deductions and credits, unless it is matched dollar for dollar with further tax rate cuts.

Chambliss is a member of the so-called Gang of Eight group of senators, a bipartisan alliance working for deficit reduction, formed last year when the country was on the verge of default thanks to a partisan battle over raising the country's borrowing limit.

Among the other Republicans who have expressed misgivings about the pledge in recent months are Senator Lindsey Graham and Representative Steve LaTourette, who is leaving the House, citing the polarized climate in Washington.

The new House of Representatives, which starts work in January, has 16 Republicans who have not signed the pledge, up from six in the outgoing Congress. One new Republican senator, Jeff Flake, also has not signed.

Democrats believe they have the upper hand in talks, after Obama's win over Republican challenger Mitt Romney in a campaign in which Obama stressed the need for the wealthy to pay more in taxes.

Speaking on the sidelines of a Washington event last week, Norquist told Reuters: "People don't always take the pledge first when they run. A lot take it after they have been there for a while. The pledge isn't the only vehicle for stopping tax increases."

Chambliss, who is up for re-election in 2014, was asked in the interview whether Norquist would retaliate against him.

"In all likelihood, yes," Chambliss said.

President Waheed's hand ?almost impossible to play ... - Minivan News

Former Energy Advisor to President Nasheed Mike Mason has published an open reply to President Mohamed Waheed, following a letter Waheed sent to key international supporters of Nasheed seeking to justify his decisions and establish the legitimacy of his leadership. Mason, a former mining engineer and expert on renewable energy, carbon finance and offsetting, was the architect of a US$3 billion renewable energy investment scheme cut short by the events of February 7. Mason subsequently resigned. This letter first appeared on his blog.

Dear President Waheed,

Thank you for your letter setting out the position as you see it. Let me in turn set out my stall, before replying to the substance of what you say.

As you know, you and I have always had a cordial, even friendly relationship. I have always thought you a reputable and straightforward person and continue to believe in your personal integrity.

It is also the case that I am not Nasheed?s man. I have tremendous respect for him as a democrat, and a man of high principle and great vision, but I have disagreed with him very strongly on issues in the past, and believe he made many mistakes in his Presidency. That said, I suspect my assessment is fairly unreliable as I am sure he had pressures on him, as I am sure you have on you, which were invisible to the outside world.

I hope therefore what I say can be taken as offering you a helpful perspective from an outsider who came to like the Maldives and its people very much, and who made many friends there in the short time I was involved. The information I have about events in the Maldives, therefore, comes not only from the ?Nasheed camp? but from a range of sources with quite different perspectives.

Now to the substance of this response.

I have no reason to question that part of your letter which sets out the extent to which you personally were, and continue, to be committed to the Maldives, and democracy ? or to the extent to which you put yourself and family at risk to support Nasheed. However I fear that your personal views and beliefs are not the driving issues here. It is the perception, not the reality, which matters more.

The key issues, I believe, are:

1. The Commission of National Inquiry (CoNI) was set up in the hope of setting the record surrounding your accession to power straight, and dismissing the smell of coup and corruption. Unfortunately it failed to do this.Two reasons come to mind: firstly the choice of Judge Selvam does not seem to have been designed to allay concerns about bias. The Burma/Singapore/Maldives/Oil/Heroin rumours and the Judge?s close connections to the ruling elite in Singapore make anything he does look suspect ? especially when the former chairman of the STO is quoted in ?The Week? as allegedly saying he has friends in Singapore who would have told him if the police were investigating. Whatever the truth, and I cannot judge that, choosing Judge Selvam was guaranteed to create more dissent than agreement. Secondly, the rumours I have heard about the pressures that led to Saeed resigning from the CoNI will not make it easy to see the report as unbiased and complete ? even if the substance of the content is correct and the rumours are false.
2. The second issue is the perception that the courts and judiciary in the Maldives are corrupt and incompetent, and politically tied to their old masters. Judge Abdullah is, I fear, widely seen as a travesty of a chief justice, and if he represents the rest it is not surprising many have lost faith in the system.

Thus the circumstances of the transfer of power as seen on numerous videos, coupled with the handling of the CoNI and the actions of the judiciary, means that I fear there is no way you will ever remove the taint of corruption and coup from this government ? however clean, honest and transparent you personally may be. Unfortunately that?s life ? perception counts more than reality ? whatever the reality is. There is, I believe, almost nothing that you can do as President to heal the country?s ills however hard you try, or however good you are.

Note though that I said ?Almost Nothing?. There is, in my humble opinion, one way out of this which would set you up as a President to be remembered ? whether or not you win the next election, and it is this.

It is quite clear that, in any future election, the MDP have to be free to campaign as they wish. It is also clear that Nasheed MUST be free to campaign also. Only if he loses a genuine, free and fair, election in which he was openly given every facility to campaign, will the world (and I dare say many Maldivians) put the doubts about the 7th Feb behind them. Indicting him in a court whose authority is being challenged will simply make things worse.

It is also clear that a real leader must recognise publicly the issues surrounding the judiciary, and I suspect some fundamental issues of a faulty constitution and legal system.

A secondary, related issue, is the wide perception that drugs and gross corruption are in some way related to politics in dark corners. Is it coincidence that Burma is a major heroin producer? It will take a brave man to sweep out the taint of past corruption which runs a real risk of becoming a current problem, and even fatally tainting the next election.

Now to something I do really know about ? money, oil and energy. The Maldives runs the risk of becoming bankrupted by its oil use ? at the very least its economic development will be curtailed and people will eventually become poorer. The solutions are there and both affordable and financeable ? or rather they were. You will never attract the level of finance needed to wean your society off expensive oil unless you have an environment where contract law is sacrosanct, the threat of nationalisation is removed, and you have transparent and predictable government and structures. Even the talk of nationalising the airport will set the country?s investment plans back decades.

In summary ? I think you have an almost impossible hand to play. There are some cards you can play ? but I fear that your advisors and political colleagues may hold you back from the rather brave decisions needed to play them. Play them, though, and the world will sit up and notice.

REVIEW: Nokia's New Windows Phone, The Lumia 920 (MSFT, NOK, T)

I got really excited when Nokia unveiled its first flagship Windows Phone, the Lumia 900, at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.

It was unique, not just another black slab with rounded corners and a home screen full of static app icons. I test a lot of phones, and it was refreshing to finally see one that didn't pretend to be an iPhone.

But by the time I had a chance to use the Lumia 900, I was mostly disappointed in the final product Nokia delivered. The screen was dull compared to other top-tier smartphones. The camera wasn't nearly as good as Nokia boasted. And Microsoft still had problems getting developers to make great apps for the phone.

Unsurprisingly, the Lumia 900 didn't sell very well.

Just seven months after the Lumia 900's launch, Nokia is giving it another go with a new phone called the Lumia 920, which AT&T sells for $100 with a two-year contract.?

Despite a few hardware upgrades like a sharper screen, wireless charging, and very capable camera, the Lumia 920 feels like Nokia took three baby steps forward but one gigantic leap backward.

Hardware, Design, And Performance

At a time when companies like Samsung, Apple, and HTC are releasing sleek and light phones, Nokia launched a tank instead. On paper, it doesn't seem that bad. The Lumia 920 weighs 185 grams, while the iPhone 5 weighs 112 grams and the Galaxy S III weighs 133 grams. But when you hold the Lumia 920, that extra weight does make a difference. I barely notice the iPhone 5 when it's in my pocket, but the Lumia 920 feels like a brick. I let a few of my non-tech savvy friends try the Lumia 920, and they came to the same conclusion. The Lumia 920 is going to be too fat and heavy to appeal to most people.

I know a lot of you will argue that Nokia made the Lumia 920 so large so it could fit in a lot of advanced hardware components, but there are plenty of devices out there with similar features that still manage to be thin and light. Most notably, there's HTC's slim new Windows Phone 8x, the Lumia's chief rival.

But if you can get past the size and weight, the Lumia 920 is an attractive phone, mostly because it's so unique. It comes in a variety of colors ?? I tested the lipstick-red model ?? and there's no mistaking it for an iPhone or one of the myriad Android clones out there. That's a good thing.?

The Lumia 920 is one of the first devices to run Microsoft's new mobile operating system called Windows Phone 8, which supports high-end hardware features like sharper screens, faster processors, and NFC chips that put phone on equal footing with other premium smartphones. The Lumia 920 takes advantage of all those capabilities, and it's a nice step up from the inadequate hardware specs found in the Lumia 900.?That's great, but it still feels like the Lumia 920 is playing catch up with the competition on the hardware level. And that's not going to be good for the Nokia when the next generation of smartphones hit the market in a few months.

There's one aspect where the Lumia 920 blows away other smartphones: the camera. Nokia overpromised and underdelivered last time around with the Lumia 900's camera, but the opposite is true with the Lumia 920. I don't think Nokia adequately expressed just how good this camera is. Photo quality is incredible, but I really liked the dedicated camera shutter button on the side. Holding it halfway down allows you to auto-focus the image, just like a normal DSLR or point-and-shoot digital camera. It's not enough to make me want to run out and buy a Lumia, but it did make me wish other phones had cameras this good.

Battery life was also really good. I got well over a day's woth of use out of the Lumia 920, and standby time among the best of any smartphone I've used.?

Windows Phone 8

On its own, Windows Phone 8 is a great operating system. I reviewed it in length here, so I won't repeat myself too much. But I will hit the two important points:

• The Windows Phone platform still has an app shortage problem.?I'm not talking about the?number of apps available in Microsoft's store, but the quality. It's still missing some major ones like Instagram, Hulu, and Dropbox. Microsoft says the selection is getting better, but there's still little incentive for developers to bring the next blockbuster app to Windows Phone as there aren't enough people using the OS yet.
• The interface is gorgeous and intuitive.?I love Microsoft's Live Tiles and think they're the perfect hybrid between the boring app icons on the iPhone and the heavy widgets on Android. With Windows Phone 8, you can adjust the Live Tiles to display more or less information, depending on its size, making your home screen incredibly customizalke, yet inviting and useful.

All of these features (good and bad) are at the core of the Lumia 920 experience. The problem is, as good as Windows Phone 8 is, there's nothing in it compelling enough to choose it over Android or iOS. It's still too little, too late.

Should You Buy It?

I only see two reasons to buy the Lumia 920. 1.) If you're intrigued by the Windows Phone platform, but don't think it's worth a heavy investment, then the $100 price tag will be perfect for you. 2.) You feel a strong affinity to Nokia (as it seems a lot of people do) and you absolutely must have the company's latest and greatest device.

Unfortunately, I don't think there are a significant number of people who fit into either of those two categories. There are plenty of great phones out there for the same price as the Lumia. Most are better.

Council?s angst over a Vegas-style casino may be nothing but a waste of energy.

In fact, the whole idea of a honking big, brand new casino in Ottawa regardless of location could go up in a puff of smoke in the new year.

With a provincial election almost a sure bet, the so-called modernization of Ontario?s casinos and their partnership with the horse racing industry could come to an abrupt halt.

And in fact, that could theoretically happen with a win from either the Tories or the Grits, who?ll be heading into an election with a new Liberal leader.

Either way, in Ottawa, you can bet on casinos and the future of the Rideau Carleton Raceway being hot topics on the campaign trail.

One of the most vocal opponents of the Ontario Lottery Corporation?s plans to replace their partnership with the horse race industry with bigger, more profitable casinos across the province is local MPP Lisa MacLeod.

Her riding of Nepean-Carleton includes the Rideau Carleton Raceway.

MacLeod says her party is committed to keeping the slots at the racetracks program - a program that was first instituted by the Tories - in place.

Her only caveat is the unknown of what might happen if the plug is pulled on the industry before an election. That, she said, might make the situation impossible.

But if they?re in place, and the Tories are in power, the Rideau Carleton raceway will stay.

?I?m going to fight to make sure it does,? MacLeod said. ?(PC leader) Tim (Hudak) has been pretty clear.?

?If we were to form the government next October, and that program is cancelled with existing tracks ripped out, I obviously can?t speculate. We don?t want to pull a McGuinty,? MacLeod said, referring to what she believes to be broken promises made under Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty.

?And of course, I don?t know when the election is going to be.?

The other guarantee her party is offering is a municipal referendum for any city where a new casino is going in.

The call for a referendum puts her at odds with Mayor Jim Watson, who says the public has elected them to make the decisions.

?I think that?s just simplistic,? MacLeod said.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson has supported the OLG?s efforts to bring a new, bigger and better casino to the nation?s capital.

And he?s also made it clear he prefers a downtown location, which would effectively kill the Rideau Carleton Raceway, which has suggested it can?t survive without the subsidy from the slots.

(The raceway continues to bristle at the use of the word subsidy, preferring to define it as rent. You say potato...)

To date, the OLG has said it has no interest in keeping the slots at the racetrack, along with a new casino.

But with an election looming, anything can happen.

?If there?s a change in the party, I suspect the Tories would put the whole modernization of the industry on hold,? Watson said Friday. ?They?ve said publicly they want to continue supporting the horse racing industry and go back to square one. We would have to figure out where we go from there.?

At Wednesday?s council meeting, a new but temporary deal was in front of politicians, with the OLG offering an additional $1.4 million to the city on top of the $4.3 million it now receives annually from slot profits at RCR.

Councillors appeared confused about what was in front of them.

Watson came to their defence.

?I think the problem is until we get into a request for proposals, and understand better the proposed arrangement, there will be an element of confusion. But in any negotiation, each party will stake out what they want. If we?re not satisfied it will cover off any additional costs, like more policing and for money for health concerns, then we?ll have to push for a better deal.

?What I?ve said all along is that I want to stop the revenue flow over to Quebec.?

Doug Morris era ends at SLV: Winningest coach in SCCAL football history retires

San Lorenzo Valley High's Doug Morris ? one of the most successful football coaches in Central Coast Section history ? announced his retirement minutes after his 25th season ended Nov. 2.

Morris, who decided a year ago this would be his final go-round, informed his team on the bus ride home from Aptos following a season-ending 59-20 defeat to the league-champion Mariners.

?I just kind of feel like it's time,? said Morris, 53. ?I've done this a long, long time. It's been a huge part of my life and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. But I want to spend time with my family beyond football before I'm completely and utterly burnt out.?

Morris and his wife of 23 years, Sandi, have three children: Katie, 20; Cole, 18; and Anna, 14.

The coach said he informed SLV officials of his decision at the outset of the season. He plans to remain at the school and continue to teach English.

The school will begin its search to replace the winningest coach in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League history in the coming weeks, said athletic director Mark Mercer, who played for and later coached alongside Morris.

Morris' retirement announcement wasn't a complete shock to his players, not after a surprise tribute to Morris on Oct. 27.

More than 100 of Morris' former players showed up wearing their high school jerseys during the Cougars' final home game of the regular season. They formed two lines leading to the field to cheer

Morris and this year's team as they ran onto the field.

?He's normally stoic on the field, but I saw it in his eyes; he was shocked and humbled,? Mercer said.

After that game and a week later in the season finale, Morris avoided addressing his retirement with the media so his players could hear the news from him first.

UNPARALLELED SUCCESS

Morris, who replaced Earl Hansen as head coach in 1988, finishes with a 189-82-9 record (.691 winning percentage), with 13 league championships and 16 postseason appearances, including three Central Coast Section titles (1999, '00, '02).?

His 1991 team went 9-1 overall and finished in a three-way tie for first in league, but pulled the short straw to advance to CCS.

?He's as fine as they get,? Hansen said. ?He knows people really well, he knows how to motivate really well and he's a Pied Piper.?

The Cougars posted a league-record, 46-game unbeaten streak that spanned from 1995-03. Along the way, they won seven straight SCCAL crowns (1996-02) and struck fear into opponents. The 2002 team finished 13-0.

?We always joked they had something in their water,? said Kyle Vanderzanden,

a quarterback at rival Aptos in 2002. ?Everyone on their team was tough. A lot of them were the best athletes in the county. They hit the weight room hard. They were always bigger than any other team and seemed to put out Division-I athletes year after year.?

Something special in the water? No, the Cougars had someone special in their ear, driving them to push harder with encouraging words.

?Growing up, I heard about the legend,? said former Cougar Nick Johnson, now a practice-squad receiver with the St. Louis Rams. ?Coach Morris this and that. It was amazing to see. He was so intense, but in a positive way. He rarely ever cussed. And as an English teacher, he pulled out some extensive vocab on the football field. You can't help but get hyped when he's talking.?

Morris surpassed former Soquel coach Dewey Tompkins in career wins with a 37-0 shutout of Santa Cruz on Oct. 5. Tompkins posted 187 in his 32-year career with the Knights.

Morris steps away sitting 10th on the CCS' all-time wins list.

His teams reached CCS title games six times, including four straight seasons (1999-02).

The Cougars delivered Santa Cruz County its first football champion in 1999, beating private school Valley Christian of San Jose. A year later they repeated as champion by topping San Francisco private school Riordan. ?He's basically a legend,? said former Cougar Waylon Prather, a tight end and punter on the '02 team. Prather shined at San Jose State and earned an NFL tryout. ?Growing up and going to games, you just one day wished you could play varsity and play for coach Morris.?

?NOT ALL ABOUT ME'

Morris, who listened to Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in his classroom before giving his team inspired pre-game speeches, was the director of his orchestra.

He oversaw all his assistants and position coaches. A former linebackers coach and defensive coordinator before taking over as head coach, Morris was a master in delegation and motivation.

His expertise, according to dozens of players and coaches, was lighting a fire under everyone.

?You could see the intensity in his eyes,? Hansen said. ?He's ready to go right now.?

Morris' passion stretched far beyond Xs and Os. He cared for the kids like they were his own.

?He was a father to a lot of kids,? said Jeff Gilbert, a former Cougars quarterback who had several NFL tryouts. He now serves as a team manager for the Oakland Raiders. ?He did a lot for my confidence, made me believe I could do a lot of things I didn't think I could do.?

Morris wasn't just giving coach-speak. He really believed in every single player and coach on his staff.

?If I did anything right over 25 years, I allowed some really good football coaches to have freedom to do what they do best and I stayed out of their way,? Morris said, ?guys like (defensive coordinator Dave) Poetzinger, (former offensive coordinator Dave) Mercer ... it's a long list. And any kid, I'll say the same thing. It's not all about me. I had great dedicated men around me.?

Morris turned out hundreds of college players, a handful of whom went on to reach the NFL, and inspired a steady flow of alumni to get into coaching football.

Nick Noce, a quarterback on two of SLV's CCS title-winning teams, and quarterback Mike Volarvich are among the Cougar alums now coaching. They helped guide one of the nation's top NCAA Division II offenses at powerful Henderson State in Arkansas.

?As you get into coaching, you start to realize, analyzing how you want to run a program,? said Noce, a graduate assistant. ?It's then you see how much of an impact and influence he had on his kids.?

?You grow up waiting for your time and when it happens, you think ?This is great.' You're part of history, part of tradition.?

WRAPPED IN TRADITION

Each season, Morris grew a beard beginning on the first day of practice and he left it untouched for months, until the team played its final game. His beard became legendary, as did his fiery speeches and numerous other traditions.

Another rite of passage was Morris' pregame speeches and poetry recitals, conducted in the dark in ?The House,? otherwise known as the team's wrestling room.

?It's almost like the Sistine Chapel to us,? Noce said. ?If you're a junior, that's when you really start to understand coach Morris and what he represents. It really is a movie scene, because of the light, the silhouette of Morris and his beard.?

Morris and his team entered the battlefield in two rows, walking hand-in-hand. Prior to games, they stopped by a pair of monuments near the field, touching a Cougar statue on one end of the end zone and paying tribute to a fallen Cougar, David Maze, at his memorial on the other end. Maze and two others were killed as passengers in an alcohol-related car crash in 1997.

After Maze's passing, Morris created another tradition. He had his players sign a no-tolerance policy for alcohol. It was sealed with a handshake.

?Your word is your handshake,? said former quarterback Harlan Prather, a quarterback in 2004-05. ?And Morris always says, ?All we have is our word.' If we don't keep that, what are we? You have to be a man some time.?

Moreover, Maze's No. 21 jersey was essentially retired. The final home game of each season a senior on the team, who best exemplifies Maze's relentless spirit and team-first attitude, is bestowed the jersey for the afternoon. Maze's mother, Laurie, helps the honoree put the jersey on.

After the final game of each season, departing seniors ?will? their jersey to an incoming varsity player.

There are many SLV traditions ? opponents know well that the Cougars take the field to AC/DC's ?Hells Bells? ? but the one Morris is most proud of is the team goals. He has taught them in his English class and made them part of his graduation speeches.

Prior to kickoff, the team huddles around Morris and he calls out a number. The players respond in unison with the team's goals.

One. ?No personal fouls.?

Two. ?One hundred percent.?

Three. Team unity.?

Four. ?Win one game.?

Five. ?Finish the game.?

Though more than a hundred alumni showed up to see Morris on Oct. 27, he didn't announce his retirement after the game. Instead, he called out the numbers. And the former players responded as if they back on the team.

A week later, Noce was watching a YouTube highlight of the special moment along with a few of his Henderson State players. He too was rattling off the goals.

THE MORRIS EFFECT

Through all the titles, Morris points to last season as one of his favorites. The injury-plagued Cougars were beaten up early and stumbled to a 4-6 finish.

Record-wise, it was one of Morris' worst seasons. But the team never stopped showing heart, never stopped fighting, the coach said.

?It was one of my worst records since I became head coach,? Morris said. ?But I had a great time. They kept fighting. And getting to coach Cole his senior year, that just made it different. But it puts things into perspective, you know? When it comes down to it, wins and losses ? it doesn't matter. It's just an experience.?

Morris wasn't always about the outcome. He was about the process, doing things right and giving it your all.

When his teams had the game in control, he substituted heavily. Though his teams were capable of putting up 100 points in some games, they rarely exceeded 50. He made it a point to not embarrass the opponent.

His sportsmanship is best illustrated in a 2007 game against St. Francis. With SLV leading 49-0 late and seeking its first shutout of the season, a second-year Sharks program ? winless and shut out three times already ? embarked on a lengthy, defies-all-odds scoring drive.

The Sharks scored in the game's waning seconds only to be called for an offensive penalty, nullifying the touchdown on a third-and-long play. Morris quickly declined the penalty, letting Sharks celebrate with a season-ending score.

Morris' decision sparked the Sharks' loyal fan base to chant, ?SLV ... SLV ... SLV.?

?Doug Morris is one of the top five coaches in Northern California in classiness and character, and it shows in his record and the types of kids who come out of his program,? said then-Sharks coach Joe Gregorio, who now coaches at Pajaro Valley. ?If there's one program I'm going to try and model my program after, it's his.?

Gregorio wasn't alone. Several county schools modeled their programs after SLV.

A small, public school located in the Santa Cruz mountains, SLV never backed down from a challenge.

Morris was pro-active in picking his fights. He scheduled larger, heralded programs each preseason to better prepare the team for league play and, he hoped, the playoffs.

The strategy worked.

?They'd play anybody,? Soquel coach Ron Myers said. ?They gave the whole county a different attitude.?

Said Louie Walters, a longtime assistant under Morris who started Scotts Valley's program a little more than a decade ago: ?That's my mentor. Everything I've done at Scotts Valley is because of Doug.?

When every local team was using run-based offenses, Morris' squads, under coordinator Dave Mercer, popularized passing to create a balanced attack.

Over the years, more and more Morris alums surfaced throughout the county as head coaches and offensive coordinators.

Schools like Scotts Valley, Harbor, Watsonville and Monte Vista Christian all added an increased aerial dimension to their offenses.

They took little traditions, too. For years, SLV's players have returned to their sideline following each game, taken a knee, and thanked their fans for attending. Now, it's commonplace throughout the county.

WHAT NOW?

Though he'll continue teaching, Morris is hoping he and his wife can travel to Europe soon.

He'll have plenty of free time during the summer. No more early morning workout supervision, passing leagues or double days.

?It's almost impossible to tell how much I'll miss it,? Morris said. ?I love the competition, feeling nervous and sick. It's a way you know you're alive. And that's enough ? win or lose. That feeling, it's a high.?

Morris said he's excited to begin the next chapter of his career. He also vows to be SLV's No. 1 fan, stopping by practice and attending games. He also wants to give the new coach his space.

?I'll miss kidding around with those boys at practice,? Morris said. ?You build special bonds with the kids, that's for sure, in ways you probably never get in the classroom as a teacher. It's how you get so gosh darn close-knit. That's why there are tears shed at the end of each season, from the players and coaches. The family is breaking up. It's that powerful bond that comes out of hard work and when you face fear together with people. That's a big one, because football is scary.?

Forgive Morris if it sounds like he wants to keep going. He's new to this retirement thing. He swears it's time to step away, but knows there will be a void that he's unfamiliar dealing with.

During those uneasy moments, Morris doesn't have to go far to see the hundreds he impacted on the field ? they're right there in his backyard. In the back of his Felton home is a separate workshop where he and his assistant coaches hammered out scouting reports until the wee hours of the morning each Sunday. One wall is covered with 25 poster-sized prints of every team Morris coached.

?Looking at all those kids and all they've given over the course of the years,? he said, ?that, for me, is all I need. I look at those boys and so many are men now. I can go out and look at 25 years of football. Kids who tried hard and fought and that's fulfilling enough.?

GOINDUSTRY DOVEBID SA (PTY) LTD ONLINE AUCTION TERMS & CONDITIONS ? MOVEABLE ASSETS

By participating in this Online Auction, you consent to be bound by these terms and conditions in addition to our general terms and conditions as well as any additional terms that may be imposed by the seller or announced at the auction, included within the Notice to Purchasers, Rules of Auction and/or set forth on individual asset lot pages.? For the purposes of these terms and conditions, we refer to any person or entity registering to offer or offering to buy goods as a "buyer" regardless of whether any contract of sale is concluded.

1. Auctioneer's role in Online Auctions

For the purpose of the Online Auction, ?GoIndustry DoveBid SA (Pty) Ltd will be the auctioneer and agent for the seller (the "Auctioneer") and will sell goods to a buyer.

The Auctioneer may at its discretion or upon the instruction of the seller:

(a) alter or withdraw all or any lots up to the moment at which such lot(s) are indicated as "SOLD" (the "Announcement of Sale");

(b) where a reserve has been placed on any lot, withdraw that lot in the event that the highest bid price at the end of the Online Auction does not meet the reserve;

(c) bid for any lot or lots offered for sale at the Online Auction on its own account ?

(d) bid for any lot or lots offered for sale at the Online Auction on behalf of ?third parties

(e) bid for any lot or lots offered for sale at the Online Auction on behalf of sellersbut, if on behalf of sellers, not at or in excess of the reserve price; and/or

(f) combine (including in bulk), sub-divide or amend a lot or lots as the Auctioneer deems appropriate.

The Auctioneer, GoIndustry DoveBid SA (Pty) Ltd, any GoIndustry DoveBid Group Company or an Associated Auctioneer may participate as sellers in Online Auctions from time to time.

Buyers agree that GoIndustry DoveBid and/or, where applicable, the Auctioneer may at any time and from time to time without notice: (i) discontinue an Online Auction either temporarily or permanently; or (ii) extend an Online Auction beyond the period indicated on the Site.

2. Sale

Unless otherwise indicated, all lots are offered subject to a reserve, which is the confidential minimum price below which a lot will not be sold.? The reserve price may be decreased by the Auctioneer or seller at any time before or during the online auction.? The reserve price may be decreased to the level of the highest Autobid if that bid is below the current reserve price with the effect that the highest Autobid may be accepted.

Subject to the reserve price (if any) being met, each lot shall be sold to the highest bidder. All sales are final. In the event of any dispute arising between buyers such dispute shall be dealt with in such manner as the Auctioneer may in its absolute discretion determine. The Auctioneer reserves the right to resell any lot in dispute by putting it up for auction again. The Auctioneer reserves the right to rescind any sale for any reason in which case the buyer?s sole remedy shall be the refund of the amount of the purchase price and any Buyer?s Premium actually paid.

The completion of a sale shall be indicated on the Site by showing the item as "SOLD" online - if an Online Auction for a lot closes without the lot being sold, it will show as "CLOSED", if a lot is withdrawn, it will show as ?WITHDRAWN".

3. Regulation

Bidding shall be regulated by the Auctioneer in such manner as it may think fit and, without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing, the Auctioneer may without ascribing any reason therefore, refuse to accept any bid or may facilitate automatic bids on behalf of buyers during the Online Auction process.

4. Notice to Purchasers

The Site will show a separate Notice to Purchasers for each Online Auction which will stipulate a payment date ("Payment Date") for each lot in an Online Auction and the date by which the goods will have to be removed by the successful buyer ("Clearance Date" or "Removal Date") and certain other terms and conditions which form part of these Terms and Conditions.

5. Buyer's Premium

The buyer will pay to the Auctioneer such premium ("Buyer's Premium") on the Announcement of Sale as stipulated in the Notice to Purchasers for the Online Auction in question to which will be added any applicable value added tax or the equivalent or similar sales taxes in the relevant jurisdiction at the current rate. The Buyer's Premium is not negotiable and is payable by all buyers. The Auctioneer, when acting as agent for the seller, may also receive commission from the seller.

6. Buyer's obligations

(a) Payment

Unless otherwise provided for in the Notice to Purchasers for the Online Auction in question, immediately after the Announcement of the Sale, the successful buyer shall pay a 25% deposit towards the purchase price. Where applicable, buyers expressly authorise GoIndustry DoveBid and/or the Auctioneer to charge buyers? credit cards for the amount of such deposit.?If a successful buyer fails to make a timely deposit, the Auctioneer and the seller may resell the item in question without notice.? In addition, unless otherwise provided for in the Notice to Purchasers, the successful buyer shall pay the full purchase price of the lot (including in addition Buyer's Premium and any value added tax or the equivalent or similar sales taxes) to the Auctioneer on behalf of the seller (in cleared funds) on or before the Payment Date. More information about the applicable taxes may be given in the Notice to Purchasers for the Online Auction in question, however, buyers should seek their own tax advice. The buyer agrees that invoices may be issued in electronic form by email.

Payment shall be made in the currency specified on the relevant Notice to Purchasers. Any bank charges in respect of conversion or transfer of monies shall be met by the buyer. If goods are exported, tax refunds or zero rating may apply, tax refunds (if any) will be made by the Auctioneer, subject to receipt of (i) satisfactory proof of export by the buyer; (ii) the corresponding amount of tax refund from the relevant tax authority or the seller and (iii) the relevant tax forms (if applicable).

(b) Collection/Removal

Unless otherwise provided for in the Notice to Purchasers for the Online Auction in question, the buyer will:

(a) remove lots from the seller's premises during normal business hours and not later than the Clearance Date/Removal Date for the lot in question and this condition shall be of the essence of the contract;

(b) only remove lots by previous arrangement with, and subject to the supervision of, the Auctioneer or its agent(s) or appointed representative(s);

(c) not be permitted to remove any lots it has purchased from the seller's premises until all sums due in respect thereof have been paid; and

(d) be responsible for the removal and insurance of the purchased lot(s) at its own expense.

If, in the Auctioneer's opinion, removal of any lot or part thereof will be likely to cause serious damage to the seller's premises, or any other damage which the buyer is either unable or unwilling to rectify, the Auctioneer may by notice to the buyer rescind the sale of such lot or permit the removal thereof from the premises to proceed subject to such conditions as it may think fit to impose. GoIndustry DoveBid shall have no responsibility to disconnect utilities to the sold asset, including electric, gas, waste and water lines.

The buyer shall provide, or ensure that their agent(s) performing removals on its behalf, provide on demand, evidence of insurance policies reasonably satisfactory to the Auctioneer, GoIndustry DoveBid and/or the Seller.

Should any party claim possession of or title to all or part of a lot prior to its removal from the seller's premises, the Auctioneer reserves the right to rescind the sale thereof or to remove or permit the removal thereof from the seller's premises subject to such conditions as it may think fit to impose.

Should the buyer fail to comply with any of the foregoing requirements the lot or lots which have been subject to an Announcement of Sale to him or any part thereof may, without further notice, be re-offered for sale, destroyed or otherwise disposed of by the Auctioneer in any manner as it shall in its absolute discretion deem fit, and any monies paid shall be forfeited.

Without prejudice to any claims that the Auctioneer and/or the seller may have against the buyer for breach of contract or otherwise the buyer will become liable from the Clearance Date/Removal Date for all storage, security and administration expenses and the cost of and incidental to re-selling and/or otherwise disposing of uncleared items.

7. Buyer's responsibilities and conduct

The buyer will be responsible for all damage that it, its carriers or its agents may do to the property of any third party (and, in particular, to the seller's premises) in removing the lot(s) it has purchased. Should the Auctioneer consider such damage likely to occur, it may require the buyer to deposit such sum of money with the Auctioneer, by way of security for the costs of reinstating that part of the premises likely to be damaged by the removal of a lot, as the Auctioneer may require. Should the buyer refuse to deposit such monies, the Auctioneer may refuse the buyer access to the seller's premises for the purpose of collecting all or any of the lots it has purchased, or rescind the sale of such lot.

By placing a Bid on a lot, the buyer represents, warrants and undertakes that it has the authority and capacity to enter such Bid and close the transaction and that any Bid that it makes constitutes an irrevocable offer to buy the lot in question for the full amount of the Bid.

8. International statutory compliance exclusion

(a) It is expressly brought to the buyer's attention that, at the time of sale, any item of plant, machinery or equipment contained in the lot(s):

may not necessarily comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1993, National Environmental Management Act 1998, Environmental Conservation Act 1989 ?or any other South African Legislation ?Regulations, Directives or their applicable laws or equivalent or similar laws in any relevant jurisdiction or; and

could contain blue or white asbestos, hazardous substances, dangerous chemicals etc. which if not handled correctly during their removal from a site could be in breach of the Environmental Conservation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act 1993, or any other current legislations covering the use of such substances in a working environment in South Africa, Southern African Development Community (?SADC?), the UK, the EC, the United States or any other relevant jurisdiction.

(b) The buyer undertakes to:

remove, ship and use any purchased plant and equipment within South Africa or SADC ?or any other relevant jurisdiction in a way that does not contravene any relevant legislation and in full compliance with all applicable health and safety standards and regulations;

comply with all current applicable legislations in any relevant jurisdiction and reasonable instructions by the Auctioneer in relation to the removal/disposal of waste including hazardous waste.

Participants agree to comply with all applicable export or import control or related laws or regulations and not to violate any applicable local, state, national or international law, statute, ordinance, rule or regulation. Participants acknowledge that the Auctioneer is not the exporter of any asset unless expressly stated.? The Auctioneer gives no representation or warranty concerning and has not conducted any investigation to ascertain which items, if any, constitute, for example, ?Restricted Technology? for US law purposes or whose export is otherwise restricted under applicable law. The Auctioneer and the seller reserve the right to cancel or rescind any sale in an Online Transaction at any time if either of them ?determines, in its absolute discretion, that the sale does or may violate applicable export or import control or related laws and regulations.?

9. Intellectual Property Rights

The buyer acknowledges that any software or intellectual property rights attaching to a lot or lots may not be the property of the seller or capable of transfer by the seller. Neither the seller nor the Auctioneer is in any way authorising the use by the buyer of such software or intellectual property rights and any use of such software or exploitation of such intellectual property rights shall be at the buyer's sole risk.

10. Transfer of risk

Upon the Announcement of Sale the buyer shall assume all risks in and relating to such lots. The buyer is advised to effect in respect of all such risks arising thereafter any insurance it may consider necessary. The duty of the Auctioneer and/or the seller to make lots available shall be deemed performed upon Announcement of Sale even if a lot is subsequently damaged and/or part thereof has been lost.

Property and title in each lot shall not pass to the buyer until:

(a) full payment therefore has been received or (where payment or part payment is made by cheque) until the cheque(s) in question have been cleared; and

(b) each such lot has been removed from the seller's premises in its entirety.

11. As Is

All goods are sold "AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT RECOURSE". Illustrations, pictures or videos posted on the Site are for the convenience of the buyers only.
The seller, the Auctioneer and, where applicable, GoIndustry DoveBid has used its reasonable endeavours to ensure that the description of each lot(s) appearing on the Site are accurate, but the buyer relies upon such description at its own risk. Buyers should satisfy themselves prior to the sale as to the condition of the lot and should exercise and rely on their judgment as to whether the lot accords with its description at their own risk.

Subject to the obligations accepted by GoIndustry DoveBid and, where applicable, the Auctioneer under these Terms and Conditions neither the seller nor GoIndustry DoveBid nor, where applicable, the Auctioneer nor any of their respective employees or agents are responsible for errors of description or for the genuineness or authenticity of any lot and no warranty whatever is given by GoIndustry DoveBid or, where applicable, the Auctioneer, or the seller or their respective employees or agents to the buyer in respect of any lot and any express or implied conditions or warranties are hereby excluded to the greatest extent permitted by law.

12. Liability

Where the buyer loads any item of plant, machinery or equipment contained in a lot or lots to remove it from a site, neither the seller nor GoIndustry DoveBid nor, where applicable, the Auctioneer shall be under any liability whatsoever to the buyer or any third party for any damage however so caused by the removal and the buyer shall be responsible for and indemnify the seller and GoIndustry DoveBid and, where applicable, the Auctioneer against any damage or loss which the seller or GoIndustry DoveBid or, where applicable, the Auctioneer may suffer or incur in respect of loss, damage or injury suffered by the buyer's employees or any third party arising from the removal of the plant, machinery or equipment.

The Auctioneer is acting as agent of the seller in an Online Auction and is not responsible for acts and omissions of the seller or any of the seller's principals, officers, directors, employees or other agents.

13. Limitation of liability

Neither seller nor GoIndustry DoveBid nor, where applicable, the Auctioneer shall? be liable, in contract, tort (including negligence) or for breach of statutory duty or in any other way for:

1.?????? any loss arising from or in connection with loss of revenue, profits, contracts or business or failure to realise anticipated savings or profits;

2.?????? any loss of goodwill or reputation; or

3.?????? any indirect or consequential losses suffered or incurred by buyer,

arising out of or in connection with these Terms and Conditions and any of the actions or events contemplated within them or deriving from a sale of goods pursuant to them (?Relevant Events?).

The aggregate respective liability of seller or GoIndustry DoveBid in respect of any other loss or damage suffered by a buyer and arising out of or in connection with these Terms and Conditions or arising out of or in any way connected with any Relevant Events, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or for breach of statutory duty or in any other way, shall not exceed (i) in the case of the seller, the amount of the purchase price paid by the buyer; and (ii) in the case of GoIndustry DoveBid the buyer?s premium paid by the buyer, in each case in respect of the goods which are the subject of the claim.

The Buyer undertakes to defend (by counsel satisfactory to GoIndustry DoveBid) and indemnify GoIndustry DoveBid and seller and hold GoIndustry DoveBid and seller harmless from and against any claim, demand, cause of action, liability or expense (including attorneys' fees and costs) asserted against or incurred by GoIndustry DoveBid, the seller or any third party in connection with the sale, removal, shipment or use of any purchased assets or a breach by the Buyer of these Terms and Conditions.?

Nothing in this clause shall limit or exclude liability for death or personal injury resulting from the negligence of seller or GoIndustry DoveBid or their respective employees or agents.

Notwithstanding any contrary provision in these Terms and Conditions, neither the Seller nor GoIndustry DoveBid limits or excludes its liability in respect of fraud,? or any other statutory or other liability which cannot be excluded under applicable law.

?14. Choice of Law and Venue

ALL DISPUTES RELATING TO THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS BETWEEN PARTICIPANTS AND THE AUCTIONEER SHALL BE EXCLUSIVELY GOVERNED BY AND INTERPRETED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF SOUTH AFRICA.

PARTICIPANTS AND THE AUCTIONEER HEREBY IRREVOCABLY SUBMIT TO THE EXCLUSIVE JURISDICTION OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN ?COURTS OVER ANY CLAIMS, DISPUTE OR MATTER ARISING UNDER OR IN CONNECTION WITH THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OR THEIR ENFORCEABILITY. EACH PARTICIPANT ACKNOWLEDGES THAT GOINDUSTRY DOVEBID WOULD NOT PERMIT THE PARTICIPANT TO REGISTER AS A BUYER OR SELLER IF THE TERMS OF THIS CLAUSE 14 WERE NOT VALID, BINDING AND ENFORCEABLE.

Participants irrevocably consent to any process in any legal action or proceedings arising out of or in connection with these Terms and Conditions or its enforceability being served in accordance with the provisions of these Terms and Conditions relating to the service of notices. Nothing contained in these Terms and Conditions shall affect the right to serve process in any other manner permitted by the laws of the country in which service is to be effected.

If a sale consists of real property , the Participants and GoIndustry DoveBid agree, , to do all things and execute all contracting deeds, assignments, instruments, transfers and other documents as may be necessary or desirable to give full effect to the transaction in that country.

These Terms and Conditions are drawn up in the English language.? If these Terms and Conditions are translated into another language, the English language text prevails.
